Updated for 2026/2027, the Waratah Ultralight Quilts have undergone a redesign to deliver greater warmth at an even lower weight. This improved performance is achieved through a refined fit that eliminates unnecessary dead space, reduced baffle frequency that allows the premium 850+FP Ultrasonic Muscovy Down™ to reach maximum loft, and an ultralight 10D Taffeta Plain Weave Nylon 24g/sqm shell fabric. The result is a warmer, lighter, and more efficient quilt.

We strategically positions the strap attachments higher on each side compared to other quilts, ensuring that more of the quilt wraps around you and more importantly beneath you, preventing any cold night air from entering when turning side to side

Sleeping Pads are a critical piece of an effective backcountry sleep system.
They trap heat created by your body and stop cold air from coming up from the ground.
Sleeping Pad temperature is measured in R value, and is very important when using a quilt, as your back is bare to the pad.
Outside Temp. (C*) Recommended Pad R Value:
Above 5*C = R3
0*C = R4
Below -5*C ≥ R5
Sleeping Pad R values are additive ie. a 3R pad with a 2R foam pad = 5R rated system*
For Women / Cold Sleepers: We recommend playing it safe, for example if you expect the lowest temperature to reach -5, we would recommend a -8 quilt.
Our quilts are comfort rated for Women, so you should expect to be warm close to the quilt temperature rating (-8 for a -8 quilt etc.)
For Men / Warm Sleepers: We recommend going close to the expected lowest temperature.
For example, if you expect a lowest of -3, then a -2 quilt should be more than sufficient as our quilts are comfort rated for women, so warm sleepers should be able to push the temperature rating by about 5*C on average.
1. Put the 2 pad straps over your sleeping pad, one around where your hip will be and one where your shoulders will be. Ensure the 2 male clips on the strap are facing up.
2. Attach once side of the quilt, then enter the quilt and do the remaining 2 clips on the other side.
3. Adjust the clips on the pad as necessary.
We recommend placing them on the edge of the pad, allowing for full mobility, but they can also be moved towards each other for increased draught protection.
We have found in our own experience that the performance enhancements of hydrophobic treatments on high quality down are widely overstated.
High quality untreated down already has naturally water repellant oils on it left by the geese (which makes sense since geese spend a lot of time in water). These oils help repel water and keep down lofted. More importantly is that these oils last indefinitely.
Hydrophobic treatments like DWR wash out easily and remove the natural oils during the application process.
Because of this, and the water resistant capability of our shell fabrics, we feel that hydrophobic down does not provide a considerable impact on performance and could actually inhibit performance over the lifetime of our products.
Because of their ability to be opened and moved within more freely, quilts are generally better for side sleepers.
Quilts allow you to sleep more naturally while in blanket-mode, and allow you to choose how secure/tight to your body the quilt sits on colder nights.
There are no quality, performance, or longevity sacrifices in buying a duck product compared to a goose product.
We can currently source the duck down in a fill power of 850, which means we will use more of it in a quilt compared to a 950 fill power down in order to achieve the same temperature rating. Therefore, a quilt with the 850 FP duck down will be slightly heavier than a quilt filled with 950 FP goose down.
The advantage of duck down? It is more readily available, and therefore, much cheaper.
With over 3000 quilts out in the wild being used, we have never had a warranty issue where the clip attachment point was pulled out or damaged.

We use a Women's comfort temperature rating which means women, who generally sleep colder than men, should be warm at the stated temperature.
Men/Warm Sleepers can generally sleep about 5 degrees cooler than this temperature.
E.g. for our -2 Waratah Quilt, The Women's/Cold Sleeper rating is -2*C and for Men/Warm Sleepers the rating is -7*C
However, everyone is different when it comes to cold tolerance, so some folks who are cold sleepers (you know who you are) will need to add overstuffing to ensure that they're warm enough.
Various other factors will influence your overall warmth, including a campsite exposed to wind, hydration, caloric intake, fitness, and humidity.
Yes, our quilts will work with any sleeping pad that's designed for a single person.
The quilt comes with 2x pad straps that have adjustable width allowing for it to be used with every pad in this description.
You can probably get away with using the 6’ quilt if you are up to 6’ ½”. Anything over that, you might feel a bit truncated in the 6’ length.
If you are more than a ½” beyond that, you probably will want to size up.
When you sleep on your stomach with your toes pointing away from you, you essentially increase your “height”. It’s like you’re standing on tiptoes while laying down.
Since our sizes refer to the maximum height of the user, you might want to consider sizing up if you are close to that size break, and you spend a lot of time sleeping on your stomach.

Fill power refers to down's ability to loft and regain its original volume after being compressed.
In technical terms, down fillpower is a rating system based on how much space one ounce of down will occupy in cubic inches (CUIN) when allowed to reach its maximum loft.
You will see the terms CUIN and FP being used when describing down fillpower. These terms are interchangeable.
The higher the fill power, the lighter and fluffier the down will be, and the more efficiently it will insulate and provide warmth.
Fill power applies equally to duck down and goose down. As an example, our 950FP Quilt has 10% less down than an 850FP Quilt, making it 10% more compressible, 10% lighter and still just as warm.

Awesome quilt, kept me warm and dry through the Eastern and Western Arthurs traverse. We had rain every single day and temps down to -10 overnight, never woke up cold once. Used it for the first time in Girraween NP over the weekend where the overnight temperature dropped to -4 degrees inside a single wall tent. I love the quilt, especially the feel of it. The only thing I disliked, was that the drybag broke the first time I was using it, without putting any pressure on it at all, so that felt quite cheap. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars.
I bought this quilt (-2C) for a multiday trip in colder conditions in Norway and It held up extremely well. The mounting points for the pad straps on the side are higher which increases comfort a lot, I actually didn’t get cold air in once while sleeping. At about 1000m high and negative C it has been at the edge of being to warm (paired with a wide rect. 4R+ pad), I normally like it warm, but there was also no wind that night so I opened up the bottom cord to stick my feet out, at negativ C! Awesome Quilt!

Really great quilt. I've taken it down to 0c and was toasty warm. The foot sinch and zipper work well to keep heat in at the feet, the only thing I've noticed is the zipper will be cold when first getting into it, but usually warms up along with you as you stay in it. The pad straps take a little getting used to be work surprisingly well. It packs down really well with the provided stuff sack. The colour is a really nice blue. It's a little darker than the photos on the website, which i definitely prefer. 100% recommend this quilt.

This quilt rocks! I bought two of them about a year ago for my gf and I as our first ultralight quilts and they've been fantastic. I've brought bring them car camping, backpacking, bikepacking, and even to outdoor concerts, parks, and random other things. My gf loves hers to death, and I enjoy mine a lot, but I very sincerely wish it came in a wide or even an ultra wide version. I have a 51in chest and this quilt does not cover me when I roll over; it lets in a lot of drafts (unless I'm laying still on my back). I will still enjoy bringing this quilt to non-camping events, when I want to go ultralight camping and don't care about warmth, as an extra quilt for car camping, and to loan to a smaller person when they need an awesome quilt. Please make wide and extra wide options, me and all the other large humans would greatly appreciate that❤️

This is the perfect quilt for me. I have tried a few other brands and once I got this quilt, I sold the others off. I am a tall person with wide shoulders and this quilt fit me perfectly! I can't say enough about it!

My partner is a cold sleeper and she always struggles with camping. 3 nights on the West Highland Way with the Waratah - she said she's never been as warm and comfortable whilst camping! Overnight temp got to 2 degrees C. I was worried she would need the -8. but the -2 was more than enough. Very well designed quilt system, can't fault it. Ridiculously packable and light (600g)

Having owned a handful of quilts from different brands (Hammock Gear, Katabatic, Thermarest), I can confidently say the Neve Waratah is the best value. The design details make all the difference: the baffle orientation, lofty draft collars, overbuilt snaps, and effective pad strap system allow it to stand out from the competitors that are $100 more. The construction quality and materials aren't quite top tier, but they are perfectly satisfactory. Thus far this quilt has served me very well and I expect it to continue to perform well for years to come.

Most comfortable sleep I’ve had outdoors! The positioning of the clips is genius, I’ve had zero drafts but can still move around easily. I’ve used it in Irish winter and Summer and slept like a baby. The shipping is also very reasonable compared to other companies. This is the real revelation!

We bought 4 Waratah quilts for our family of two adults and two kids for our first multi day hike. We’re in northern NSW so felt this was the most versatile temperature rating for us. We all absolutely loved them. So much more comfortable than sleeping bags! We opted for the longer size for my husband and I. Regular length for tall 12 and 9 year olds. The boys slept with theirs open and my daughter and I cinched in the footbox. Perfect! So much lighter to carry! So happy with our purchase!!! Major investment for us but these will be replacing bulky camping sleeping bags that the kids are grown out of as well. So I think they work out great value. Why own multiple versions of the same thing? Kids have used them on the couch in winter. Can’t wait to use them on our next hike. Love the fact that they’re from a local company as well. Cannot recommend highly enough! Bought one for my brother as a gift since. Have told all our friends who hike to just do it buy a Neve quilt they’re awesome 🥳

No -8°C without a Hood. 0°C maximum i think. Wet in the morning even in the tente. The price is still attractive.

If you're after something with a hood, we would suggest getting a down or synthetic balaclava, or a beanie/buff combination. As for the wetness, it sounds like a bit of condensation had occurred at your campsite. No sleeping bag/quilt is immune to condensation unfortunately. We would suggest keeping things as well ventilated as possible with your tent, but even then, it's just impossible to avoid sometimes!
Bought a -2 Waratah for my teen, and a Waratah Pro for me [from the sale area]. Light, warm, and great value. Only used them in summer so far but we'll give them a real test when it cools off in Tas.

I love this quilt. It has treated me well on my sea kayaking, hiking, and bike packing expeditions. My favorite part is how small it packs down. This helps a lot when packing it into small spaces in the sea Kayak. It is a super value for the price.
I could not be happier. Not only have I saved over 1kg in weight, compared to my sleeping bag, I was warmer and more comfortable using my Waratah -8. My new go-to sleeping system for alpine Tasmania. The only annoying thing is that it has taken me 56 years to find Neve quilts 😂
I love this quilt, and it’s tremendous value for money. The only reason it doesn’t get five stars is that one of the clips on the pad strap is facing in the wrong direction. That means it doesn’t clip properly into the quilt itself, unless I twist the clip that’s sewn into it. It’s a small thing, but it does bother me every time I put the pad on. UPDATE: Customer service reached out to me and is sending a replacement strap. I’m totally sold on this quilt, and on this company. If you’re thinking about getting one, you should!!
The waratah is one of the greatest pieces of gear I’ve ever bought. Its price new is in line with competitor’s used prices so the value cannot be beat. To my knowledge it has ALL the features of the highest end quilts. Love the pad attachment system and how customizable it is. Draft collar, adjustable foot box drawstring and zipper combo. I have the -8C (18F) and was hot sleeping in my underwear in 35F weather. With thermal base layers I have no doubt I would be comfortable at the temperature rating -8C/18F. I might buy the -2C because it packs smaller and the -8C has proven to be TOO warm for most situations. I’ve had 15 or so nights with this quilt so far and there is no evidence it’s ever been used. Very high level of construction quality. Hats off to Neve gear, amazing product at a beyond fair price.
First test of the Waratah Long -8C went well, 3 nights in Canadian Rockies in early Oct. Pros: The price/value is pretty great considering the cost of equivalent rated UL quilts. Great loft and even distribution of down. The materials and construction looks and feels high quality. Neck and foot box baffles work well. Pad straps are quite effective at sealing out drafts while shifting around. Neutral: it doesn’t pack down super tiny, but that’s to be expected I guess for a Long -8 quilt. I didn’t use a compression sack, which would improve the packed size. Cons: I wouldn’t say it’s comfort rated down quite to -8C. We had slightly below 0C temps (not sure exactly how cold, but frozen condensation inside the tent fly) each night, and I was chilly at times even with some layers on. So if you’re a cold sleeper like me, my recommendation is to go for the colder rated version if you’re on the fence. 4.75 stars!
Purchased two of the quilts to zip together for my wife and I. We just finished a two night backpacking trip out in Yosemite. The first night was ~45 and the second was ~35 storming on our tent all night and even with the damp and temps we were warm. Absolutely well designed quilts and exactly what we needed. We love them so much and probably pie favorite pieces of gear.
Love this bag! Super light and compresses really well. I've found the -2 to be plenty warm in frosty conditions - not sure how cold it was exactly - and comfortable in warmer temps when opened up as a quilt. It might be too warm in the dead of summer. But amazing value!
I took the Waratah -2 on a Winter Overland Track trip last month and loved it! I probably needed the -8 version (as I was pushing the boundaries of how cold I could go) but it was my first ever trip with quilt and I was impressed. After switching now, I don't think I'll ever go back to a sleeping bag. Light, super fluffy, and a wonderful texture, the Waratah is now one of my favourite pieces of gear.

In the quilt market, I think Neve gear has created a value unicorn with the Waratah. So far, I’ve had 8 nights in this quilt. Coming from a sleeping bag, I much prefer the versatility of a quilt, especially one like the Waratah that can still wrap around you. This still gives you that snug feeling. I thought for UL sake, I’d prefer a sewn footbox. It’s a couple ounces lighter so you have better warmth to weight ratio. But after experiencing the Waratah and the option to open it up fully, I can see myself using this for all kinds of trips. The materials and workmanship are top notch but the real star is the design. I’ve been beyond happy and just pleased to have found Neve gear before they inevitably explode in the American backpacking market.
I’ve used this quilt in Hungary, Italy, and most recently throughout the entire Tour du Mont Blanc. It’s very lightweight, packs compactly, and is well suited for ultralight backpacking. The option to open the footbox, both at the end and horizontally, makes it adaptable across a range of temperatures. The side straps and overall design work efficiently; I didn’t notice any heat loss, even when shifting position during the night. It kept me warm and comfortable at over 2000 meters in the Alps, including in rainy and windy conditions under a tarp-tent. 🏔️ A well-designed and dependable piece of gear; definitely recommended! 💪
Took this beauty on a costal hike in Canada and have zero complaints! Easy to set up, cozy, great options to let air flow in or button up for warmth. Looking forward to trying it out in the mountains next. I'm 5'4" and went for the 5'6" option - not a ton of extra length to burrow inside but sufficient for me.
I've had the Waratah for almost 12 months now, and it's accompanied me into all sorts of conditions. It was one of my first pieces of ultralight gear and will have a place in my kit for years to come. It's seen over 1000km and 30 nights of action, and there has not been one cold night. The choice to be able to close the toe-box and strap down the sides has made it versatile in a range of conditions. I couldn't have been happier with this piece of gear!

Sorry no good photos. I spent a long time investigating quilts for my Arizona trail fall hike and are there some nice quilts out there. Being on a budget most were out of reach. Then I came upon neve gear and put down the hammer and am so glad I did. This -8 centigrade I know will keep me warm down to single digit temps (degrees) with zero drafts thanks pad attachment system. Then it opens up like a blanket for warmer nights yes I’m so happy I got this quilt. Will be buying a -2 centigrade for summer trips in the mountains.

First time using a quilt, and it's epic! I move about a bit and cross my legs at night and sleeping bags don't allow it. I was way more comfortable in this. And drafts weren't an issue at all which was my concern. The placement of the strap clips is better than everything else on the market from what I can seetoo. So far so good 👌
Was looking for a quilt that had longer length and wide enough width without leaving a gap when I toss and turn. The collars on the side is really doing it's job and the clip system is awesome, No smell from the quilt and not a single feather has leaked. Got to give it 5/5
