Better Baffle Orientation

To Prevent down from shifting, we choose to use a mixture of horizontal and vertical baffles, trying to keep them the same max length to reduce down movement when sleeping

Efficient Down Distribution

We purposely underfill the outer torso baffles, this is because due to our pad attachment system, these baffles will be underneath you and therefore wont add much thermal value. Therefore we can add more down where its actually needed

We also overfill the footbox as feet are one of the first things to get cold

Responsibly Sourced Down

Like many, we are always concerned with the impact of our products, especially on the environment. This is why we ensure that our down is sourced only from RDS approved suppliers

RDS ensures that the feathers and down used in products derived from geese and ducks raised in compliance with the principles and criteria of animal welfare. This means no live plucking as down is a by-product of the meat industry

Boxed Baffles

The Waratah quilt utilises a box baffled construction method.

This results in a continuous and unbroken layer of insulation, preventing heat from escaping through the seams.

How can we help?

FAQs

How warm of a Sleeping Pad do I need?

Sleeping Pads are a critical piece of an effective backcountry sleep system.

They trap heat created by your body and stop cold air from coming up from the ground.

Sleeping Pad temperature is measured in R value, and is very important when using a quilt, as your back is bare to the pad.

Outside Temp. (C*) Recommended Pad R Value:

Above 5*C = R3

0*C = R4

Below -5*C ≥ R5

Sleeping Pad R values are additive ie. a 3R pad with a 2R foam pad = 5R rated system*

How do I use the Pad Straps?

1. Put the 2 pad straps over your sleeping pad, one around where your hip will be and one where your shoulders will be. Ensure the 2 male clips on the strap are facing up.

2. Attach once side of the quilt, then enter the quilt and do the remaining 2 clips on the other side.

3. Adjust the clips on the pad as necessary.

We recommend placing them on the edge of the pad, allowing for full mobility, but they can also be moved towards each other for increased draught protection.

Why don't we use Hydrophobic Down?

We have found in our own experience that the performance enhancements of hydrophobic treatments on high quality down are widely overstated.

High quality untreated down already has naturally water repellant oils on it left by the geese (which makes sense since geese spend a lot of time in water). These oils help repel water and keep down lofted. More importantly is that these oils last indefinitely.

Hydrophobic treatments like DWR wash out easily and remove the natural oils during the application process.

Because of this, and the water resistant capability of our shell fabrics, we feel that hydrophobic down does not provide a considerable impact on performance and could actually inhibit performance over the lifetime of our products.

Are quilts good for side sleepers?

Because of their ability to be opened and moved within more freely, quilts are generally better for side sleepers.

Quilts allow you to sleep more naturally while in blanket-mode, and allow you to choose how secure/tight to your body the quilt sits on colder nights.

Are there any disadvantages with the 850FP Duck down compared to 950FP Goose down?

There are no quality, performance, or longevity sacrifices in buying a duck product compared to a goose product.

We can currently source the duck down in a fill power of 850, which means we will use more of it in a quilt compared to a 950 fill power down in order to achieve the same temperature rating. Therefore, a quilt with the 850 FP duck down will be slightly heavier than a quilt filled with 950 FP goose down.

The advantage of duck down? It is more readily available, and therefore, much cheaper.

Can the Clip Position damage the fabric?

With over 3000 quilts out in the wild being used, we have never had a warranty issue where the clip attachment point was pulled out or damaged.

If you ever do, please let us know and you'll be covered under our warranty.

How are your temperature ratings determined?

We use a Women's comfort temperature rating which means women, who generally sleep colder than men, should be warm at the stated temperature.

Men/Warm Sleepers can generally sleep about 5 degrees cooler than this temperature.

E.g. for our -2 Waratah Quilt, The Women's/Cold Sleeper rating is -2*C and for Men/Warm Sleepers the rating is -7*C

However, everyone is different when it comes to cold tolerance, so some folks who are cold sleepers (you know who you are) will need to add overstuffing to ensure that they're warm enough.

Various other factors will influence your overall warmth, including a campsite exposed to wind, hydration, caloric intake, fitness, and humidity.

Can I use your quilts with a Wide or Mummy sleeping pad?

Yes, our quilts will work with any sleeping pad that's designed for a single person.

The quilt comes with 2x pad straps that have adjustable width allowing for it to be used with every pad in this description.

I am just over 6 feet tall. Do I need the 6’6” length?

You can probably get away with using the 6’ quilt if you are up to 6’ ½”. Anything over that, you might feel a bit truncated in the 6’ length.

If you are more than a ½” beyond that, you probably will want to size up.

I am a stomach sleeper. Should I go up a size in length?

When you sleep on your stomach with your toes pointing away from you, you essentially increase your “height”. It’s like you’re standing on tiptoes while laying down.

Since our sizes refer to the maximum height of the user, you might want to consider sizing up if you are close to that size break, and you spend a lot of time sleeping on your stomach.

Is the DWR used on your quilt fabrics PFC free?

Yes, since 2024 all of our fabrics and coatings are PFC free.

What is Down Fill Power?

Fill power refers to down's ability to loft and regain its original volume after being compressed.

In technical terms, down fillpower is a rating system based on how much space one ounce of down will occupy in cubic inches (CUIN) when allowed to reach its maximum loft.

You will see the terms CUIN and FP being used when describing down fillpower. These terms are interchangeable.

The higher the fill power, the lighter and fluffier the down will be, and the more efficiently it will insulate and provide warmth.

Fill power applies equally to duck down and goose down. As an example, our 950FP Quilt has 10% less down than an 850FP Quilt, making it 10% more compressible, 10% lighter and still just as warm.

Customer photo review of Waratah UL 4*C Summer Quilt

Just got back from doing a temperature test in Northern BC. I'm American as you will see in the picture of the temperature reading in Fahrenheit. Neve states the rating for the Wartah UL is 40° and at 37° and high humidity I was comfortable throughout the night. I am super excited to use this throughout summer and lighten my load a little bit. So glad I found this little gym.

Store owner replied: That's awesome to hear with the temperature Virgil! Always love a good Govee temp rating hahah. Thanks for the data point!

Customer photo review of Waratah UL 4*C Summer Quilt

Very nice feel, light and airy, while providing a lot of warmth. Slept well in lows of 7°C and 8m/s wind with both doors of my X-Mid open for most of the night and one closed when the wind shifted. I had the collar clips open and the strap loosely around the sleeping pad. Based on this, I'll be interested to see how far into the autumn I can push this one before breaking out the -2 degree quilt. Very happy with the purchase!

Customer photo review of Waratah UL 4*C Summer Quilt

Haven't had a chance to take it out yet (still winter time here in Utah), but really happy with my purchase. Super light, and fabric is silky and comfy next to skin. Think it will make a great summer quilt. My only wish/request is that Neve starts making the UL version in additional temp options (for three season temps) and with a sewn footbox.

Waratah UL 4*C Summer Quilt

Store owner replied: The UL quilt will keep you warm, but definitely not Utah Winter warm hahah. Excited for you to take it out when summer comes around!

Customer photo review of Waratah UL 4*C Summer Quilt

I was looking for a good quilt to use down to about 40F. This quilt looks like it should do the job. I tried it out and it's pretty warm and not drafty. The down fluffs up really nice and has a lot of loft. The foot box had plenty of room for my size 17 feet. I'm 6' 4", and the 6' 6" bag is the perfect size. Even with the sides tucked under me, I don't feel trapped in it. There's a lot more room than a mummy bag has. The bag seems well made, and there isn't any down coming out of it. Overall, a good buy. I'd buy it again in a heart beat.

Store owner replied: Thanks JB! Appreciate your support mate.

Just hanging my Ul quilt out after completing a 3000km bikepacking race across Australia. To say i was impressed with this quilt is an understatement. I made the purchase purely for pack size and weight. But was surprised at how it managed to retain some warmth (whilst dressed in layers) on those cold desert nights. Also it was being packed wet early in the mornings and never got that mouldy water stink some get being packed wet all day. I will be making a purchase for the warmer version for some upcoming races in colder climates. Can’t recommend this UL quilt enough. They nailed it 👍

Store owner replied: 3000km is insane, well done mate! Thanks so much for using our quilt, and we're sure you'll be just as pleased with the other quilts as well.

Out last weekend in Tassie in -10°C and used this over my 3 season sleeping bag which i had been cold in at temps above 0°C. Toasty warm! So good 😃

Waratah UL 4*C Summer Quilt

Store owner replied: Awesome! Glad to hear you're making full use of the Waratah UL as an overquilt. Will have to try that myself one of these days.

Amazing value and fantastic product. So light and warm it’s become one of my favorite pieces of gear from you. Awesome work guys. Really looking forward to my Barrington Top jacket that I bought recently. If it’s as good as this bag I’ll be incredibly happy.

Waratah UL 4*C Summer Quilt

Store owner replied: Hey Rob, thanks for the kind words and glad you're liking the Waratah UL! Hahah clearly you knew the Barrington was named after Barrington Tops. Keen for you to try one out!

It was everything that was advertised. Very comfortable and lightweight.

Waratah UL 4*C Summer Quilt

Love the quilt overall, the pad strap’s are a bit more fiddly than my Waratah, hence the 4 and not 5 stars.

Waratah UL 4*C Summer Quilt

Store owner replied: Hey Nicholas, glad you love the quilt overall. We did strip down the pad strap system a bit to save weight. It's a bit of a trade off for usability/weight savings. If you do keep the hooks on the quilt itself, and hook on/off the shock cord, it'll be a bit easier instead of the other way around. Hope that helps!

Got to finally test this out this past weekend at CDT trail days. It was low 40's and it was plenty warm for me. Look foward to using it on my CDT thru hike.

Waratah UL 4*C Summer Quilt

Store owner replied: Thanks Stephen, hope you have a great time on the CDT!

I think this is a great quilt and really fits that summer overnight low temps of the Midwest. Very cozy and warm yet easy to ventilate. I hope they make the Waratah -8C in a UL version like this. If they do….I’m in for scooping one up.

Waratah UL 4*C Summer Quilt

Store owner replied: Can't say much right now, but we're definitely expanding the UL range ;)

Amazing quality. got out in my new quilt for two nights in the PNW and was cozy. Only complaint is I wish the storage bag was a good bit bigger. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but seems small to leave it in longterm!

Waratah UL 4*C Summer Quilt

Amazing quilt. I have only used it once and it was perfect for the warmer weather. Shipping was efficient and easy to deal with.
