ABOUT
We wanted to create a 3+ season ultralight puffy with one of the highest warmth-to-weight ratios on the market, while still offering a full feature set including a full-length zip, adjustable hood and zippered hand pockets, all at an unrivalled price point for a jacket of this spec.
This efficiency comes from 950+ Fill Power Ultrasonic Muscovy down, an ultralight yet durable 7D ripstop nylon shell, and carefully designed baffle sizing and placement. The result is the Barrington Down Hoody.

How to Measure?
- Sleeve: Start at the center back of your neck. Run the tape across your shoulder and down to your wrist with your arm slightly bent.
- Chest: Wrap the tape under your arms and around the widest part of your chest.
- Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your torso.
- Hips: Stand with your feet apart and measure around the fullest part of your hips.

BAFFLE FREQUENCY
These days, it's extremely common to see down jackets with a million tiny baffles. This has been a byproduct of the outdoor industry pursuing fashion and style, over actual functionality and warmth.
In order for a down product to actually be warm, it needs to loft. The higher the loft height, the warmer that down piece will be. By creating too many sew-lines and too many baffles, the down itself is not given a chance to fully loft.
Through our infrequent sew-lines, we create less baffles all throughout our hoody. This, in turn, allows for each baffle to fully loft to their max peak loft height, thus achieving a much higher amount of warmth for the same/less weight.
However, there is a fine balance of taking this too far (down begins to shift when the baffles are too wide). But we've found a sweet spot between down density and loft, so that you you can stay toasty warm (much warmer with other jackets at the same total weight), while having your down hoody weigh next to nothing!
HOOD DESIGN
When we were designing our hood, we wanted a hood that would actually...work. This meant designing a hood that could actually cinch all the way shut (balaclava style). We've found that a balaclava style hood provides the maximum amount of warmth for an area where there is often dramatic heat loss (neck and head).
You're able to cinch the hood down to pretty much just your nostrils, which allows the hood to act as the perfect head insulation for any quilt users out there. However, when not cinched, the hood provides a relaxed fit that feels just right.
For seamless operation, we’ve also placed flat-button cord locks on the exterior, ensuring the adjustment system is always accessible and easy to operate, even with gloves on.
950+FP Ultrasonic Muscovy Down™
Our 950+ Fill Power Ultrasonic Muscovy Down™ by SOFTIE combines premium natural Muscovy down with SOFTIE’s proprietary, patented ultrasonic processing technology.
Unlike conventional mechanical washing, SOFTIE’s process uses high-frequency ultrasonic energy during cleaning to more effectively remove impurities while minimising unnecessary stress on the delicate down clusters. This helps preserve their natural integrity and allows the down to achieve exceptional loft, cleanliness and consistency.
The result is an exceptionally clean, high-performance natural insulation reaching 950+ fill power, delivering outstanding warmth for its weight while reducing residual odour and supporting long-term loft and performance.
Beyond its high loft, Muscovy Down has a superior rebound rate compared to both standard duck and goose down. While high-fill-power goose down can sometimes be slow to "re-loft" after being compressed in a stuff sack, the resilient architecture of Muscovy clusters allows them to spring back to maximum volume almost instantly. This rapid expansion minimizes the "cold window" typically experienced when transitioning gear from a pack to the body.
