BAFFLE FREQUENCY
These days, it's extremely common to see down jackets with a million tiny baffles. This has been a byproduct of the outdoor industry pursuing fashion and style, over actual functionality and warmth.
In order for a down product to actually be warm, it needs to loft. The higher the loft height, the warmer that down piece will be. By creating too many sew-lines and too many baffles, the down itself is not given a chance to fully loft.
Through our infrequent sew-lines, we create less baffles all throughout our hoody. This, in turn, allows for each baffle to fully loft to their max peak loft height, thus achieving a much higher amount of warmth for the same/less weight.
However, there is a fine balance of taking this too far (down begins to shift when the baffles are too wide). But we've found a sweet spot between down density and loft, so that you you can stay toasty warm (much warmer with other jackets at the same total weight), while having your down hoody weigh next to nothing!
